Signals, People!

Living in Florida, I’ve come to the conclusion that, upon entering state borders, you must agree to give up all thought of using the turn signals on a car.

I, therefore, tend to be fastidious about using mine. And commenting vociferously about those who don’t.

They make driving frustrating. You never know what’s coming down the road.20120501_turn-signal_612mz

Sadly, these folks only come out when I’m in a hurry.

I was driving to a meeting the other day and came to an intersection where I could have turned right after stopping. So I stopped.

A line of cars was coming, so I thought I’d be prudent.

Often, I just gun the car and go after a stop. It comes close to being a roll-through. The reasonable but hurried stop. But I was feeling particularly responsible that day.

And I’d already passed one police car.

So I stopped. Waited. And the car approaching slowed. As did the nine cars behind him.

Having chosen prudence, I waited, fearing he might speed up once he got off his cell phone.

It appeared to be quite an animated conversation.

He turned. No signal. No pause. Never put down his phone.

But I couldn’t go because the next car in line did speed up. So I waited.

The next car slowed. No signal.

She turned.

The next three blew through the intersection.

The next two turned. No signals.

170px-Turnsignals_OnOf the ten cars, four turned. None used turn signals.

What’s with you people?

Then there was the time not too long ago where I began to turn right because the car coming up had his right turn signal on.

He didn’t turn.

Instead, he honked his very loud horn as he drove past. Fast. And used his finger of choice.

Really?

I’m like those drivers who often choose not to use their signals. I’ve great intentions, but things get muddled with life. Then I can come off being of a divided mind. Unsure. Unfocused.

And that’s assuming I have any mind at all on any given day.

I want to be wise in the decisions I make. But I know I waffle. Go back and forth at times, not able to make up my mind.

Like someone switching their turn signals back and forth, messing with the minds of those in oncoming traffic.

Indecision often messes with my mind.

The Bible has a fool-proof way to deal with this.

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.”           James 1:5-6

It makes sense that the One who is all wise could help me out when I need wisdom to make a decision.

If I believe that He will. Not doubting. Not waiting to feel wise, but moving ahead and making a decision, confident that it’s with His wisdom.

Are you signaling for His help?

  1. How true! Sometimes I think it is illegal to use a turn signal in Florida. Too bad we sometimes do that in the spiritual realm as well. Lord, please help me to remember to turn to You.

    1. People BELIEVE it’s illegal to use turn signals. Which tanks my sense of justice with everything else! Thanks for the encouragement.

  2. Yes, all wisdom comes from God. How often do I just fail to ask? Thank you for the reminder, Dayle.

Oh, and I missing riding in the car with you. So animated, and so educational! Love you!
